Vision-Based Navigation

چکیده
Navigation in outdoor terrain is di cult due to a lack of easily and uniquely identi able landmarks. This paper outlines current research on extraction of navigationally salient features from images and maps, feature matching and viewpoint determination, landmark selection, detection and diagnosis of route following errors, perceptual issues related to vision-based navigation, and database and software availability.

Robust positioning of drones for land use monitoring in strong terrain relief using vision-based navigation
For land use monitoring, the main problems are robust positioning in urban canyons and strong terrain reliefs with the use of GPS system only. Indeed, satellite signal reflection and shielding in urban canyons and strong terrain relief results in problems with correct positioning. Using GNSS-RTK does not solve the problem completely because in some complex situations the whole satellite's syste...
متن کاملA Flexible Framework for Vision based Obstacle Avoidance Problem
This paper addresses a new architecture that employs optical flow for vision based obstacle avoidance problem for mobile robot navigation. The proposed architecture utilizes monocular vision for navigation and obstacle avoidance. Real experiments to guide a Pioneer 3-DX mobile robot in indoor environments are presented, and the analysis of the results allow us to validate the proposed behavior ...
متن کاملVision-Augmented Inertial Navigation by Sensor Fusion for an Autonomous Rotorcraft Vehicle
We describe a novel inertial navigation system based on measurement fusion which includes stereo-vision among its sensors. The vision-augmented system provides enhanced accuracy in the estimation of the vehicle states when flying in proximity of obstacles, and can operate without GPS signal, for example when flying under vegetation cover, indoors or in complex urban environments. Scene feature ...
متن کاملVisual Navigation for Mobile Robots: A Survey
Mobile robot vision-based navigation has been the source of countless research contributions, from the domains of both vision and control. Vision is becoming more and more common in applications such as localization, automatic map construction, autonomous navigation, path following, inspection, monitoring or risky situation detection. This survey presents those pieces of work, from the nineties...
متن کاملDifferential GNSS and Vision-Based Tracking to Improve Navigation Performance in Cooperative Multi-UAV Systems
Autonomous navigation of micro-UAVs is typically based on the integration of low cost Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers and Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS)-based inertial and magnetic sensors to stabilize and control the flight. The resulting navigation performance in terms of position and attitude accuracy may not suffice for other mission needs, such as the ones rele...
متن کاملVision-based Navigation, Environmental Representations and Imaging Geometries
We discuss the role of spatial representations and visual geometries in vision-based navigation. To a large extent, these choices determine the complexity and robustness of a given navigation strategy. For instance, navigation systems relying on a geometric representation of the environment, use most of the available computational resources for localization rather than for “progressing” towards...
